This Privacy Policy explains how TEKS Navigator (“we”, “us”) collects, uses and shares personal information when you use the TEKS Navigator website and service. TEKS Navigator is the data controller for the personal information described here, which means we decide why and how it is processed.
Information we collect and why
- Account information — email address, optional display name, login credentials (passwords are managed by our authentication provider and never visible to us) or your Google account identity if you choose “Continue with Google”, and your plan and role. Purpose: to create and secure your account and provide the Service. Legal basis: performance of our contract with you.
- Content you create — saved collections, references you add and planning notes, visible only to you. Purpose: to provide the features you use. Legal basis: contract.
- Usage and lookup records — when signed in, the search text, matched TEKS code, filters, result count, standards you open, and time. Purpose: to apply plan limits, prevent abuse and improve coverage. Legal basis: contract and our legitimate interests in running and improving the Service.
- Anonymous product events — page views, button clicks and form submissions with the page path and a random identifier that lasts only for your browser tab. These are not linked to your account, contain no names or email addresses, and are not recorded when your browser sends a Do Not Track or Global Privacy Control signal. Purpose: product improvement. Legal basis: legitimate interests.
- Technical information — IP address, browser and device type, collected in server and security logs. Purpose: security and fraud prevention. Legal basis: legitimate interests.
- Contact, demo and quote requests — name, work email, school or district, role, reason and message. Purpose: to respond to you and provide customer support. Legal basis: legitimate interests, or steps taken at your request before entering a contract.
- Service emails — your email address is used to send account emails such as sign-up confirmation and password resets. Legal basis: contract. We only send marketing emails with your consent, and you can withdraw consent at any time.
Student information
TEKS Navigator does not ask for or collect student names, student IDs, assessment results or any other student-level information. Please do not enter student information in notes or forms.
Payments
Purchases are processed by Paddle.com, our Merchant of Record. Paddle collects and processes your payment details, billing address and tax information under its own privacy notice; we do not receive or store your full card details. Paddle shares with us the information needed to manage your purchase, such as your name, email address, plan and transaction status.
Who we share information with
We do not sell your personal information. We share it only with:
- Service providers that host and run the Service for us, such as our cloud hosting, database and authentication providers, and our email delivery provider;
- Paddle.com, as Merchant of Record, for the sale of our product, subscription management, payment processing, tax compliance and invoicing;
- Google, only if you choose to sign in with Google;
- Professional advisers, such as lawyers and accountants, where necessary;
- Authorities, where required by law or to protect rights and safety.
Sponsor banners link to the sponsor’s own website, which has its own privacy practices. We don’t share your information with sponsors.
International transfers
Our service providers may process information in the United States and other countries. Where information is transferred from the UK or EEA, we rely on appropriate safeguards such as Standard Contractual Clauses or adequacy decisions.
How long we keep information
We keep account information and content for as long as your account is active. If you close your account, we delete or anonymise your personal information within 90 days, except where we must keep certain records (for example, transaction records) to meet legal, tax or accounting obligations. Contact requests are kept for up to 24 months. Anonymous product events are kept in aggregate form. When information is no longer needed, it is deleted or anonymised.
Your rights
Depending on where you live, you may have the right to access, correct or delete your personal information; to receive a copy of it in a portable format; to restrict or object to certain processing; and to withdraw consent where we rely on consent. UK and EEA residents also have the right to complain to their local data protection authority. Residents of U.S. states with privacy laws, including Texas, may have similar rights under those laws.
To make a request, contact us. We will respond within one month and will not discriminate against you for exercising your rights.
Security
We use appropriate technical and organisational measures to protect personal information, including encryption in transit, access controls that limit each account to its own data, and restricted administrative access. No method of transmission or storage is completely secure, but we work to protect your information.
Cookies and local storage
We use only essential cookies and browser storage needed to keep you signed in and to make the Service work. We do not use advertising or third-party tracking cookies. Our anonymous product events use a temporary identifier stored only for your browser tab. You can clear cookies and storage through your browser settings, though you may then need to sign in again.
Children
The Service is intended for adult educators and is not directed to children under 13.
Changes and contact
We may update this policy from time to time and will post the new version here with an updated date. For any privacy question or request, please contact TEKS Navigator.
